In 1946, ten years after coming to Hollywood, Emil was very busy with his acting and theater work. He created
his own acting troupe and they would perform for free. It was during this year that Emil was selected Best
Little Theater Actor by Playgoer Magazine. While performing in a play called "The Viper's Fang,"
Emil was observed by a Columbia Pictures talent sout who instructed him to contact Jules White, the producer of
many of Columbia's comedy short films.
