Having saved a little money, Emil left Pennsylvania once again, this time alone and determined
to settle in Los Angeles to find acting work. Upon arrival, Emil took odd jobs and lived very
meagerly. He found a room available in a small "live play" theater and lived there
doing whatever work he could to pay the rent. He was offered small roles at first in the theater's
productions, and as he gained experience, confidence and skill, the roles got bigger and better.
After ten years, Emil was not only getting the prominent roles, he was also directing the plays.
